ChargEV has set up Malaysia's first electric truck charging hub in Tangkak, Johor, featuring a 400kW DC Charger with 8 bays. This hub is one of the biggest EV charging stations on the North South Expressway in Johor, providing a convenient stop for EV drivers traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Additionally, the hub is equipped to cater to electric commercial trucks as well.
We were able to see a sneak peek of the charging hub before it officially opened, and here is a rundown of what they offer at the location.
The ChargEV EV charging hub can be found at Tangkak Pitstop, which is situated less than a kilometer from the Tangkak Toll Plaza. It is conveniently accessible from both directions of traffic. At this site, ChargEV has installed a Kempower DC charging solution with dynamic load balancing. There are currently 8 charging bays available, with the possibility of adding more DC charging points in the future to meet growing demand.
This particular charging location is specifically created to meet the needs of commercial and electric trucks traveling between KL and Singapore, unlike the majority of EV charging stations which are geared towards passenger cars. Tangkak Pitstop includes amenities such as a food court, prayer room, and bathroom that are managed by Majlis Daerah Tangkak.
Currently, the EV charging station is not available for public use. When it becomes fully functional, the DC chargers will cost RM1.60 per kWh. Customers who have signed up for ChargEV's annual membership plan can receive a 50% discount on charging fees.
The ChargEV Charging Hub in Tangkak offers a convenient option for electric vehicle charging, serving as an alternative to the Gentari EV Charging Hub at Petronas Bandar Baru Ayer Hitam in Johor. Both hubs are conveniently situated near the North South Expressway.
If you weren't aware, ChargEV and eLoaded are working together to set up extensive DC charging hubs. One of the locations where they will be installing EV charging stations is at Elmina Lakeside Mall, which will have 16 DC charging points available.
