Is it true that Maxis locks their iPhones to their network even after the contract ends? Here is some information you should be aware of.
On December 31, 2024, a Maxis customer with the username @tombwgholland posted on X (formerly Twitter) that his iPhone 13 Pro was locked to Maxis after his Zerolution contract ended. This meant that he could only use Maxis SIM cards with his phone, preventing him from switching to other telecom providers with the iPhone 13 Pro.
Maxis does not take responsibility for locking the SIM card in the device. On December 31, 2024, the customer made more posts claiming that they had been trying to contact Maxis for several days to unlock their device. However, according to their post, Maxis reportedly told them that they were not responsible for the SIM lock.
The customer said he reached out to Apple several times to find out about the problem with his iPhone 13 Pro. He claimed that Apple remotely checked his phone and found that Maxis had locked it. The customer also stated that a Maxis representative told him that they had no record of the issue and no further action had been taken.
For the past three days, I have been trying to contact them to unlock my device, but they keep saying they never did it. They have denied the request and closed the report without taking any further action.
I contacted Apple several times to verify the situation with my phone being locked by Maxis. Apple confirmed this after remotely checking my device. However, when I called them recently, they continued to deny any involvement. They are refusing to take responsibility.
The customer's iPhone 13 Pro was successfully unlocked. The following day, on January 1st, 2025, they posted again in the same thread to announce that their iPhone 13 Pro had been unlocked. They also shared a screenshot showing that their two non-Maxis SIM cards were functioning normally.
What actually occurred is still unknown at this time. It is unclear why the locking was claimed to have happened. Maxis has not yet provided a response regarding the issue.
After reviewing the Zerolution page, we did not come across any mention of a SIM lock. However, we did notice a clause that allows Maxis to block the IMEI number of your device in certain specific situations.

The user was given the impression that he had fulfilled his contract obligations, therefore it is unclear why his phone would be blocked unless there were any remaining payments left.
In everyday terms, after you have finished your contract with Maxis, you can use the device you previously had a contract for with any SIM card from any telecommunications company, whether it is in Malaysia or outside of the country. This also applies to using foreign SIM cards.
A few of us at SoyaCincau.com have recently acquired new iPhones through a Maxis Zerolution installment plan. Despite being under contract, we have the flexibility to use different SIM cards.
Maxis has the ability to lock your device to their network if it is a special promotion called Maxis Network Exclusive. This promotion offers customers the opportunity to purchase a new phone at a discounted price. However, the condition is that the phone can only be used with a Maxis SIM card for 12 months after purchase. This allows Maxis to provide greater discounts on iPhones and reduce initial payments, making certain models more affordable for customers.
As stated in the FAQ section, the Maxis Network Exclusive device was launched on January 15, 2024.
It was mentioned that the device will be able to be accessed as long as:
You can choose to end the Network Lock ahead of time by paying the entire Zerolution installment or standard contract for the agreed-upon period (either 24 or 36 months). Once payment is made, the iPhone will be unlocked within 1 to 2 business days.
As of now, the only phone being offered by Maxis Network exclusively is the regular iPhone 13 with 128GB of storage. Unfortunately, this phone is currently unavailable on the official online store. The product is clearly labeled as exclusive to the Maxis Network.
