Boost Bank in Malaysia may become the first digital bank in the country to support Google Pay for contactless mobile payments. Google Pay, a feature of Google Wallet, enables Android users to make contactless payments, similar to Samsung Pay and Apple Pay. Malaysia currently has three digital banks available to the public.
Boost Bank's Mastercard Debit Card is now listed as a supported card for NFC payments on Google's updated list.
Google Pay contactless payments are now supported by a total of 15 banks and financial providers in Malaysia. These include AmBank, Bank Muamalat, CIMB, Hong Leong, HSBC, Maybank, Public Bank, RHB, Standard Chartered, and Wise. In addition to Boost Bank, Alliance Bank is also now included in the list of supported banks in Malaysia.
Unfortunately, Boost Bank is not currently compatible with Google Pay. If you are new to Google Pay, you will need to start by downloading the Google Wallet app from the Google Play Store.
The Boost Bank Debit Card is not currently compatible with Google Pay. When attempting to add the card to Google Wallet, an error occurred because it cannot be used for contactless payments at this time. However, the card can still be added to your Google Account for payment of other digital services.
Boost Bank is currently listed as a supported bank by Google, so it is likely that they will soon activate the contactless feature. If Boost Bank becomes the first digital bank to offer Google Pay, it would be intriguing to see if they also decide to support Apple Pay.
Wise is the first prepaid card in Malaysia to offer support for Apple Pay and Google Pay starting in September 2023. In addition to a multi-currency account, Wise users can generate multiple virtual card numbers that can be used with Apple Pay and Google Pay.
