Everything You Need to Know About the Sony Honda Mobility Afeela 1 EV: Pricing, Colourway, Warranty, and More

The Afeela 1 is the initial electric vehicle released by Sony Honda Mobility. Orders are now being accepted for this new electric sedan. This collaboration between Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) began in early 2022, but its roots can be traced back to the Vision-S Concept showcased by Sony at CES 2020.

Afeela offers information on the pricing, color options, and warranty for their

Because the announcement was made at CES, most of the information shared by SHM today is focused on the US market. In the US, the Afeela 1 is available in two different versions.

The price includes a 3-year free subscription to specific services such as the Afeela Intelligent Drive Level 2+ ADAS features, Afeela Personal Agent, personalized themes, and entertainment services.

No matter which version you choose, the booking fee for Afeela 1 is $200 in USD or approximately $900 in Malaysian Ringgit. In contrast to Tesla, Afeela 1's booking fee can be refunded if needed.

The Signature model is available in Tidal Gray, Calm White, and Core Black, and customers can select either Black or Gray for the interior. In contrast, the Origin variant only has a Core Black exterior and Black interior.

In terms of warranty, the Afeela 1 includes a standard 4-year / 50,000-mile vehicle warranty. Additionally, there is an 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty specifically for the EV's high-voltage battery. If the battery's State of Health (SoH) falls below 75% during the warranty period, it will be replaced.

SHM is offering a warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles for the powertrain of Afeela 1, similar to the one provided by another company. The complete details of the warranty policies will be revealed at a later time.

The launch of Afeela 1 will not start until 2026.

Afeela EVs are not likely to be seen frequently like Sony's popular products such as PlayStation gaming consoles or Bravia TVs, as they are only available in two markets currently: California and Japan.

In California, the Afeela 1 Signature variant is scheduled to be launched in the middle of 2026, followed by the release of the Origin model in 2027. SHM also has plans to introduce the Afeela 1 in Japan in 2026, although the specific timeline was not disclosed in the recent announcement.

When it comes to launching in California, SHM appeared to have strict requirements. In order to reserve the EV, customers must confirm that they live in California and the Afeela 1 must also be registered, titled, and stored in the state.

On the other hand, the electric vehicle will not be put together in California. SHM stated that Afeela 1 will be assembled at a current facility in Ohio, but it was not specified if the Japanese models will also be made at that location.

Specifications for the powertrain, battery, and charging capabilities of the Afeela

Even though there are two different versions of the Afeela 1, they will both come equipped with a dual motor and all-wheel drive system. The total power output of the two motors is 360kW (~483hp), but the exact torque number was not provided in the specifications.

The exact range of this electric vehicle has not been announced, but SHM mentioned that the Afeela 1 is being created to provide approximately 300 miles (483km) of range as rated by the EPA. The EV is equipped with a 91kWh lithium-ion battery pack and can charge at speeds of up to 150kW with DC charging and 11kW with AC charging.

American-version vehicles will come equipped with a North American Charging System (NACS) charging port created by Tesla. As a result, it is expected that Afeela 1 will work with the Tesla Supercharger network in the United States. Additionally, the EV can also be charged using Combined Charging System Type 1 (CCS1) chargers with an adapter.

Afeela 1 has a large trunk space, automatic doors, and air suspension. In terms of size, it is similar in width to the BMW i5 but slightly shorter in length and height. Despite this, it offers much more trunk space than BMW and is comparable to the Tesla Model S.

The dimensions of the Afeela 1 are as follows: Length is 4,915mm, Width is 1,900mm, Height is 1,461mm, Wheelbase is 3,000mm, and Boot space is 765

The dimensions of the Tesla Model S are as follows: length is 5,021mm, width is 1,987mm, height is 1,478mm, wheelbase is 2,960mm, and boot space is 798L.

If you haven't noticed, the Afeela 1 does not have traditional door handles. Instead, the electric vehicle is equipped with automatic doors that will open when it senses the digital key from a smartphone or a physical NFC card key.

In addition to its sleek design, SHM has installed an air suspension system in Afeela 1. This system works in conjunction with the EV's motion management system to ensure a smooth, stable, and comfortable driving experience.

Afeela 1 comes with a variety of visual, auditory, and entertainment features that enhance the user

The main idea behind Afeela 1 is to create a mobile entertainment space. To bring this idea to life, SMG installed a large panoramic screen in the dashboard of the electric vehicle, although the specific size of the screen was not provided.

The infotainment system in Afeela 1 can connect to several streaming services like Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, Stingray Karaoke, and Zoom. Additionally, you can play PlayStation 5 games in this car that has 5G connectivity, but the gaming experience is provided through Remote Play and not a built-in PlayStation 5 console.

In addition to that, there is a second screen positioned at the front of the electric vehicle. Known as the Media Bar, it has the ability to show different things like personalized messages, charging information, weather updates, traffic conditions, and digital decorations.

SMH did not provide specific information about the number of speakers or power output of the sound system. However, they mentioned that Afeela's sound system incorporates Sony's Spatial Sound Technologies, enabling it to be compatible with Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio content.

Furthermore, the electric vehicle (EV) includes a feature that actively reduces noise inside the cabin, specifically aimed at minimizing road noise. Additionally, SMH has partnered with Polyphony Digital, the developer behind Gran Turismo, to create unique audio experiences within the cabin known as e-Motor Sound.

Afeela 1 is equipped with numerous sensors to support its intelligent features, all powered by Qualcomm processors. According to SMH, the electric vehicle contains around 40 sensors such as cameras, radars, ultrasonics, and LiDAR technology.

A comparison between Afeela 1 Signature and Afeela 1 Origin: What sets

Upon first inspection, it can be challenging to differentiate between the Afeela 1 Signature and Origin models. One simple method is to compare their tire and wheel sizes.

The Signature model has bigger front and rear tires, with sizes of 245/40R21 and 275/35R21 respectively. On the other hand, the Origin variant comes with smaller front and rear tires, with sizes of 225/55R19 and 245/50R19.

Another key distinction is that the Signature model includes extra cameras on its side mirrors, offering a wider view to the screens inside the car. Additionally, the rearview mirror in this version shows images captured by a camera.

Additionally, the Signature version also includes two entertainment screens for passengers in the rear of the vehicle.

Finally, customers who chose the Afeela 1 Signature will have a wider selection of colors to choose from and will receive their orders earlier in 2026. This is because SHM will only start delivering the Afeela 1 Origin in 2027.
