Revolutionizing the Road: A Closer Look at Honda’s 0 Series EVs Debuting in 2026

Honda plans to unveil their 0 Series electric vehicles in 2026, beginning with an SUV and a saloon car. The Japanese automaker officially announced at CES 2025 that production of the new EV family will begin next year. Some may feel a sense of familiarity with this news, as the vehicles showcased at the media event today closely resemble those introduced by Honda at last year's CES.

In contrast to the concept vehicles at CES 2024, Honda has brought prototype units this time. While these prototypes may not be ready for production, they provide a preview of Honda's direction towards electrification in the future.

The new series will be led by the Honda 0 SUV and Saloon models.

Honda will start introducing the Honda 0 Series with the launch of the Honda 0 SUV. This electric mid-size SUV is inspired by the Space-Hub concept model that was showcased by the company at CES 2024.

Similar to the Afeela 1 by Sony Honda Mobility, the upcoming Honda 0 SUV will also be manufactured in Ohio and is set to debut in North America by the first half of 2026. The electric vehicle will also be available in Japan and Europe, although the exact release dates have not been disclosed yet.

In addition, the company intends to launch the Honda 0 Saloon in the North American market towards the end of 2026. Just like the two electric vehicles discussed earlier, the Honda plant located in Ohio will handle the manufacturing of the Honda 0 Saloon.

Honda will introduce an electric vehicle in Malaysia this year, but it will not be part of the 0 Series family. Instead, it will be the Honda e:N1 model.

The upcoming Honda 0 Series will come equipped with the Asimo operating system and Level 3 autonomous driving

Surprisingly, Honda did not discuss any specifications when they revealed prototypes of their 0 SUV and Saloon at CES. As a result, there is a lack of information about the abilities of these future Honda electric vehicles, such as their battery sizes, how far they can travel on a single charge, how quickly they can charge, their performance, and even a rough idea of how much they might cost.

Rather than this, the company is prioritizing specific technologies to be integrated into the 0 Series EVs. However, the presentation mainly consisted of high-level information and conceptual videos.

The 0 Series EVs will operate using a new operating system created by Honda called the Asimo OS. This operating system is named after Honda's famous Asimo humanoid robot, which is used for research and development and also promotes science and technology worldwide.

The Asimo robot incorporates autonomous technology as a key feature, and Honda is working to integrate this technology into the Asimo OS. This is in preparation for the upcoming Honda 0 Series EVs, which will be equipped with Level 3 autonomous driving technology. This technology includes various AI models developed by Honda and Helm.ai.

The Asimo operating system will be responsible for handling different electronic control units in electric vehicles, such as the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and entertainment system. It will also have the ability to receive over-the-air updates, allowing Honda to deliver software updates and new features to the 0 Series models even after they have been purchased.

At the same time, Honda is working together with Renesas to create a system-on-chip for their Honda 0 Series electric vehicles. This chip will serve as the central component of the electronic system in these EVs, utilizing Renesas' R-Car X5H hardware platform and featuring a custom AI accelerator. It is anticipated to provide 2,000 TOPS of AI processing power while maintaining a power efficiency of 20 TOPS/W.

If you're curious about when Honda will introduce an electric vehicle in Malaysia, you'll be happy to know that you won't have to wait for the 0 Series EVs or Afeela 1 models to arrive. The Honda e:N 1 will be available in our market later this year, so keep an eye out for more information.
