Honda is set to introduce its 0 Series electric vehicles in 2026, beginning with an SUV and a sedan. The Japanese automaker announced at CES 2025 that production of the new EV family will start next year. Some may find this news familiar, as the vehicles revealed at the event appear to be the same as those showcased at last year's CES.
In contrast to the concept models showcased at CES 2024, Honda has now brought prototype units that give a preview of their future electric vehicle direction. Although not ready for production, these Honda 0 prototypes provide insight into where Honda is headed with electrification.
The new series will be led by the Honda 0 SUV and Saloon models.
Honda will start introducing the Honda 0 Series with the launch of the Honda 0 SUV. This electric mid-size SUV is inspired by the Space-Hub concept model that was showcased by the company at CES 2024.
Similar to the Afeela 1 from Sony Honda Mobility, the upcoming Honda 0 SUV will also be manufactured in Ohio and is set to be released in North America in the first half of 2026. The electric vehicle will also be available in Japan and Europe, although the specific release dates have not been disclosed yet.
In late 2026, the company intends to launch the Honda 0 Saloon in the North American market. Just like the two electric vehicles discussed earlier, the Honda 0 Saloon will be manufactured at Honda's Ohio plant.
In other news, Honda is planning to introduce an electric vehicle in Malaysia this year, but it will not be part of the 0 Series family. Instead, the model will be called the Honda e:N1.
The Honda 0 Series will come equipped with Asimo OS and Level 3 autonomous driving technology.
Surprisingly, Honda decided not to discuss specific details about the SUV and Saloon prototypes they revealed at CES. As a result, information about the battery size, range, charging capabilities, performance, and potential cost of these upcoming Honda EVs is currently unavailable.
The company prioritizes certain technologies for the 0 Series EVs instead of spreading its focus too thin. During the presentation, they mainly shared high-level details and conceptual videos.
The 0 Series EVs will utilize a new operating system created by Honda called the Asimo OS. This operating system is named after Honda's famous humanoid robot, Asimo, which is not only a research and development project but also serves as a global ambassador for promoting science and technology.
Honda is integrating autonomous technology into the Asimo robot and connecting it to the Asimo OS. This is being done in preparation for the new Honda 0 Series EVs, which will feature Level 3 autonomous driving capability. This technology will utilize AI models developed by both Honda and Helm.ai.
The Asimo operating system will handle different electronic control units in electric vehicles, such as the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and entertainment system. It will also have the ability to receive updates over-the-air (OTA), so Honda can easily send software updates and new features to the 0 Series models even after they are purchased.
At the same time, Honda is working together with Renesas to create a system-on-chip for Honda 0 Series electric vehicles. This chip, based on chiplet technology, will be the central component of the electronic system in these EVs. It will utilize Renesas' R-Car X5H hardware platform, along with a specialized AI accelerator, to provide 2,000 TOPS AI processing performance and a power efficiency of 20 TOPS/W.
If you're wondering when Honda will officially introduce an electric vehicle in Malaysia, you'll be happy to know that you won't have to wait for certain models to arrive. The Honda e:N 1 will be available in our market later this year, so keep an eye out for more information.
