Tesla Model Y 2025 “Juniper” Hits Malaysian Shores: Bookings Open, Pricing Revealed, and Features Unveiled

The latest Tesla Model Y, named "Juniper", is now open for reservations in Malaysia with a starting price of RM195,450. Deliveries are set to commence in late April. This electric SUV, equipped with enhanced efficiency and a redesigned look featuring full-width lightbars, brings new features inspired by the upgraded Tesla Model 3.

Tesla is providing a special Launch Series package for the initial group of customers, which includes additional features and a unique badge.

The new Tesla Model Y "Juniper" launch series in Malaysia has a pricing structure similar to the upgraded Tesla Model 3 when it was first released. Currently, the Model Y is only available in two options in Malaysia, with the Performance model expected to be released at a later date. The official pricing for the Model Y in Malaysia has been announced.

When comparing the prices at their respective launch times, the new Model Y is less expensive than the earlier Model Y, which had a starting price of RM199,999 in July 2023.

As is usual for Tesla, customers have the option to choose additional features such as paint colors. The color "Stealth Grey," previously priced at RM7,500, is now included at no extra charge. If you prefer a different color for the exterior of the Model Y, here are the additional costs.

As standard, the Model Y includes 19-inch Crossflow wheels. If desired, you have the option to switch to 20-inch Helix 2.0 Wheels for an additional cost of RM10,000.

If you wish to switch the interior color scheme from all black to black and white, it will cost an additional RM5,000 as an optional upgrade.

The Tesla Model Y includes Basic Auto pilot as a standard feature. For an additional cost of RM16,000, you can upgrade to Enhanced Autopilot, which includes features like navigate on autopilot, auto lane change, autopark, dumb summon, and actual smart summon. The Full Self-Driving Capacity is available for RM32,000, but it's important to know that this function is not yet enabled in Malaysia.

Malaysian customers have the option to make purchases through Tesla Malaysia's website by paying a non-refundable fee of RM1,000. It is important to remember that the price displayed does not include delivery and administrative charges, as well as number and order fees.

The standard Model Y RWD is priced at RM197,150 before on-the-road registration fees, while the fully-equipped Model Y LR AWD costs RM270,150 before on-the-road registration fees. These prices do not include any additional costs for Enhanced Autopilot or FSD add-ons.

The Tesla Model Y includes a 4-year warranty for the vehicle up to 80,000 kilometers, as well as an 8-year warranty for the battery and drive unit up to 160,000 kilometers.

Extra features are included in the Tesla Model Y "Juniper" Launch Series to mark the release of the new vehicle. The initial group of vehicles is being released as a special limited edition "Launch Series" to commemorate the production of the Tesla Model Y.

Tesla's website states that customers who purchase the Model Y Launch Series will receive special launch series badges on various parts of the vehicle, including the rear liftgate, puddle light, doorsill plate, charging console wordmark, and vegan suede for the Black Interior. Additionally, buyers of the Model Y AWD versions will have the option to include Acceleration Boost.

The 2025 Tesla Model Y "Juniper" has been updated with significant changes compared to the previous model. The base model, which is rear-wheel drive, can travel up to 466km on a single charge according to WLTP ratings. It has a acceleration time of 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 201km/h.

On the other hand, the Long Range All-Wheel Drive model has a higher WLTP-rated range of 551km on one full charge. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 201km/h.

The new Model Y offers increased range and faster acceleration compared to the older model. However, the top speed has been lowered from 217km/h to 201km/h.

When it comes to charging, the rear-wheel drive version can use DC charging up to 175kW, while the long-range all-wheel drive version can support up to 250kW.

In addition to a new look on the outside, Tesla says they have made their electric SUV quieter by redesigning the body castings to reduce the number of parts from 70 to just 1, resulting in fewer gaps. They have also improved the smoothness of the ride by updating the wheels and tires for better grip. The updated Model Y now has a drag coefficient rating of 0.22Cd, which is similar to the Tesla Model 3.

Just like they did with the improved Model 3, the redesigned front and back of the vehicle have contributed to better range and performance.

Just like other Tesla Model Y vehicles, this electric vehicle has top-notch storage capabilities with up to 2,130 cubic feet of total storage space, including the front trunk. The second row seats can now be adjusted with power recline, and the rear boot can be unlocked hands-free when you approach the back of the vehicle.

The inside of the new Tesla Model Y is reminiscent of the existing Model 3, featuring a sizable 15.4" touchscreen in the center for the driver and an 8" touchscreen for rear passengers. Notably, Tesla has kept the signal lever on the left side of the steering wheel, but the rear stalk is no longer included.

We anticipate the local launch and public preview of the new Tesla Model Y to happen soon, with deliveries scheduled for late April. Malaysia is one of the first countries to receive the new model, as the US website still displays the previous version.
